Eyewear Care Tips

Caring for Eyeglasses and Sunglasses
Cleaning
Caring for Eyeglasses and Sunglasses Don't wipe your lenses while they are dry. Wash or blow off dust or grit instead.

Avoid submerging frames under water since certain frames and coatings will corrode over time. In addition, do not use Windex or any ammonia-based products, as these products can also scratch glasses or remove protective coatings. Use a specialized lens cleaner that is designed not to damage your coatings such as anti-reflective or scratch coats.

Do not use any paper products (including facial tissue) to clean your glasses. Paper contains wood that can scratch your glasses. Never use worn clothing that may have embedded dirt. Never use silicone tissues on plastic lenses. Dry them with a soft cotton towel or micro fiber cleaning cloth.

Storing
When not wearing your glasses, never rest them face down on their lenses. Keep them in their protective case.

Be sure to store your glasses beyond the reach of young children or pets.

At night, make a habit of placing your glasses on a night stand rather than on a chair or couch. As well as making sure they're handy first thing in the morning, you'll eliminate the possibility that someone will sit on them!
Wearing
Avoid resting your glasses on your head, because your hair fibers will cause abrasions on your coatings over time, this process will also weaken or crack the frames.

Always put on or take off your glasses with both hands, grabbing the temples midway on each side and sliding them backwards over your ears. This will help them keep their adjustment longer.

Adjusting
Over time, your frames will need adjusting; this will prolong the glasses and allow for the most comfortable fit. While many people like to think they can "adjust" their frame by themselves, it is always a good idea to have an eye care professional adjust your glasses to ensure the proper fit and comfort. It is recommended that you have your eyeglasses adjusted:
  • 30 days after your initial purchase
  • 6 months after your initial purchase
  • Whenever you need an adjustment or repair

Caring For Contact Lenses

  • Never let cosmetic lotions, creams or sprays touch your lenses.
  • Never wear lenses when swimming or in a hot tub.
  • Never wear daily-wear lenses during sleep, not even a nap.
  • Never wear your lenses longer than prescribed by your eye-care practitioner
